The warmest June in England on record seems to have been followed by a July which is not particularly keen to provide much respite. For the chronically online, the discourse has been around the (European) AC conundrum – with pejoratives of “Europoor” being thrown in for good measure.
It is in moments like this that return to work mandates feel easier to manage; three days in the office affording me the opportunity of a climate controlled desk. With that comes an increased reliance on the trains, particularly SWR which has regularly being a byword for crappy service. The main impact of the weather is overlaying further stressors on an already flailing service, with things as varied as trespassers, trees fallen over on the rail, and failed signals leading to multiple train cancellations.
