76. A Tactical Slacking Cautionary Tale

Today’s Merlin Wisdom post was a bit too on the nose for me, what with my non-job searching job search. It chimes with something I had thought of before, namely recognising the value of a bird in hand and not taking tactical slacking to the extreme.

A big part of the de-motivation is yet another transformation project, the third in the three years I have been here, and doom scrolling thelayoff.com. The worst part is the overarching sense of doom and disillusionment doesn’t just pervade my current employer’s layoff board, the mood on all four major competitors (including a previous employer of mine) is broadly similar.

All of this suggests one should perhaps place more value on the bird in hand/ the grass in my yard or whatever metaphor one chooses. The grass across the fence, far from looking greener, looks shriveled and browned. It is a heat wave out there – both literally and figuratively it seems!

Sigh!
