Richard Dallaway posts about reconnecting with music, highlighting his experience with (paying for but not using) music streaming subscriptions, and a new service being tried, Cantilever. In a similar vein, I have a Spotify subscription which has barely been used in the last three months.
Cantilever is an interesting service, but one which I am unlikely to ever use. This is no slight on the service – or its selling point of ten curated albums for a month – but more related to my current itch to own my music. As it turns out, my old archive is 4,600+ songs deep, was last added to almost ten years ago, but is now accessible via Navidrome.
My way of reconnecting is therefore listening to a random album via Navidrome on my self-hosted rig. This does not necessarily address the discovery problem, it does help with re-connection.
